Organic Waste Disposal Using Anaerobic Digestion

Modern society produces ever-increasing quantities of waste materials, which (in well populated countries such as the UK) are causing political, environmental and financial concerns.

A new economic and environmentally viable treatment and conversion of wastes containing organic material has been developed.  A major breakthrough in the form of the internationally patented Portagester ® which is a commercial, economic and environmentally acceptable alternative to landfill, mass incineration and sea disposal.

The Portagester ® is a revolutionary new pre-composter and anaerobic fermenter for the treatment of farm and horse stable manures; food and catering wastes; trade, garden and local authority wastes.  Depending to some extent upon the type of feedstock being treated, the plant is relatively odourless, clean and compact; sealed vessels prevent cross-contamination and disease risk from birds, rodents and insects.

The fermented and composted solid material can be used as organic fertilizer-rich fibre for soil conditioning and as a growing medium, with the environmental and political advantages of replacing peat and petrochemical based fertilizers. Separated liquid can be treated in an anaerobic digester (AD) to produce biogas - an energy source.

With the support of Bioplex, IWM provides effective treatment of the following organic waste types:

Animal Manures - including dog waste which currently under test

Raw Food

Cooked Food

Food Processing Waste

Meat processing By-products

Green Waste

Industrial Wastes - paper pulp, fats, oils, greases

Sewage and Industrial Sludge

Municipal Solid Waste Organic Fraction (MSWOF)
